Testimonials from the parents of former and current students
““Amy is an exceptional piano teacher. Our 11-year-old son has learned so much from her over the past 2 1/2 years. Amy is extremely well-organized, and expects great things from her students. The calendar year with her is well-structured and the group lessons help her students learn in different ways. We are very pleased with Amy’s teaching and would recommend her to any dedicated student of piano.””
““We are so thankful for Amy Work and her piano program. As my kids started to get to the age where I wanted them to learn piano I felt pretty anxious about finding a teacher. I had a lot of hopes for how my kids would be introduced to music and instruments. Now we are in our second year with Mrs. Work and she has exceeded our hopes and expectations. Fostering a love for music was one of my lofty expectations of the teacher and that’s exactly what she does. Of course there is hard work and dedication but she also brings her students into the community and collaboration that studying music can include. I hope she never stops teaching because I can’t imagine there’s anywhere better for our kids to be.” ”
““Amy Work is a dedicated, thorough and kind piano instructor. I was looking for someone who could provide proper piano technique and theory to my daughter, but still make the experience fun. We found the perfect person in Amy. She has been extremely flexible and open to my daughter’s pace, working with her until she found the kind of music that inspired my daughter to practice. Now my 9 year-old is flitting her fingers up and down the keys, and is more motivated to practice independently each day. She is also working through learning theory and music history. Amy works hard to provide a complete 360 degree enriched, musical experience!””
““Our family was so very fortunate to discover the amazing gem of a piano teacher we have found in Amy Work. Our 13 year old daughter has had several piano teachers over the years and each teacher has contributed in a special way to our daughter’s growth. The difference with Amy is the connection she makes with each individual child. I have never seen my child more excited about learning new pieces or going to lessons as I have since she started with Amy. My daughter has even left lessons saying she wished she had more than an hour to practice with Amy. That speaks volumes to me in how Amy teaches and relates to her students. Also, there is never any prompting to practice anymore. I feel Amy has conveyed her enthusiasm and passion for piano to my child and I am ever so grateful!””
““After our beloved nonagenarian piano teacher of four years passed away, we thought it would be hard to replace her. As it turned out, we needn’t have worried. Successful teachers have a special chemistry. And Ms Amy’s was just right for our daughter. From the very first lesson, our daughter was engaged and excited. She was thrilled with the flexibility in music choice and I was impressed with the organization of the lessons, scope of instruction and clarity of home assignments. Amy loves what she does and her students love her for it. Whatever YOUR age, Amy is the right choice to begin, continue or revisit your or your child’s interest in piano.” ”
““Ms Amy is energetic and very encouraging to her students. We love the passion she has for piano music which she readily pours into her students. We are extremely pleased that she is our daughter’s piano teacher.””
““Amy is the best!!! Our daughter loves her and is learning so quickly. Her approach is so kind, yet disciplined and she makes everything fun and easy to understand. Whether it’s bringing together her students and their families for a backyard recital or organizing for the kids to play at nursing homes and events, our whole family feels like we’re part of a community.””
““Amy Work has been my daughter’s piano teacher for the past three years and we couldn’t be happier. Mrs. Work is such an enthusiastic teacher and her love of both music and her students is evident in everything she does. She does an excellent job of instilling the importance of both discipline and fun in playing music. In addition, Mrs. Work really tailors her lessons to the individual student and provides many opportunities for them to perform in a variety of settings. She emphasizes both technique and musicality and is able to motivate students to push themselves in a positive and encouraging way. All of these characteristics combine to create an environment where kids want to practice and as a result are constantly improving. I only wish we had found her sooner!””
““Amy Work knows how to reach each student with carefully selected music to teach both the technical and expressive aspects of performance. She provides many opportunities to perform through lovely recitals, group lessons, music festivals, fundraising events, and nursing home visits. Amy teaches not only to give a reason for practice, but employs diverse methods to guide students how to practice at home. Our son took lessons from Amy for 11 years, and his growth in poise, confidence, and musicality is a testament to the instruction of Amy Work.” ”
““My children have been taking piano from Amy Work for several years, and they truly enjoy her enthusiasm, love of music, and love of teaching. A diligent, dedicated, and professional piano teacher, she strongly encourages students to get involved in piano events such as guild, festival, ensembles, and competitions. She keeps her students interested and excited about their pieces, giving them input into the pieces they would like to play. The recitals are beautiful, and the students are well-coached and prepared to present their music in front of an audience. Perhaps most important of all, Amy is a kind and caring person who enjoys working with children of all ages.””
““Our daughter has been studying piano with Amy for 7 years now. After interviewing several teachers, we chose Amy because of the positive way she interacts with her students. Amy has high expectations of all her students and helps them strive for excellence. Beyond providing a solid technical foundation for her students, she works to share her passion for music with them. We have been very pleased with the way Amy keeps her program fresh through interesting venues for recitals, opportunities to engage with the community through music, and challenging them to try new things.””
““Four of my children have taken piano lessons from Amy over the course of sixteen years. She began teaching my daughter at the age of nine, while studying at George Mason University. She would teach in our home every week. Kate looked forward to her car driving up our driveway every time. Amy always came in with a smile and pushed Kate to develop her piano skills. She introduced her to different genres of music and gave her many opportunities to perform in solo studio recitals and duet recitals in Loudoun County. Kate is now 25 years old and remembers those days with affection. As she was taking lessons, her older brother, Tommy, was also learning to play the trumpet. His trumpet teacher encouraged him to take piano lessons to understand the full range of notes. Trumpet was his first love and Amy helped him become a better trumpet player. My son Billy also sat and listened to Kate’s lessons. One day he asked us to give him a try at learning the piano. He began studying with Amy at eight years old. Amy had to be patient and caring because Billy loved to bang on those keys! A few more years went by and my fourth child, Bradley, begged to play. He began taking lessons at Amy’s studio at age six. Amy stayed with him as he struggled to manage his time between piano, football, lacrosse, and studying serious academics in high school. Piano was always as refuge for him. He still plays the piano now at age 20. Amy made it fun for all my children by choosing music that would excite them and motivate them to practice. My children still talk about those days with Amy. Kate still talks about how she wished she had kept playing throughout high school. Bradley is at UVA now and told me just the other day how he misses his lessons and wishes he had time to play more. He often goes to their music department and plays when he is stressed about school. Amy instilled a desire for music in him that he will have for the rest of his life. Amy is a dedicated teacher who teaches with passion and patience. She pushes her students to be the best they can be; her love of music was and continues to be such a blessing to my children.” ”
““When our oldest son was turning 6, we started looking around for a piano teacher since we wanted to introduce him to music. We interviewed several teachers in the area, and decided to go with Mrs. Work, who our son seemed to be most comfortable with. We joined Mrs. Work’s studio in March and our son was able to perform in the studio recital in June. With no musical background in our family, we didn’t know what to expect, but that was quite a nice surprise. The following year, he participated in all sorts of piano festivals, competitions and recitals. Mrs. Work truly raised our child’s musical interest to the next level. Her patience with young kids, her kindness, her experience, her teaching techniques, her passion for music and teaching, and her selection of music really bring out the best of our son. Now three years later, two of our children are happily studying piano with Mrs. Work, and our youngest child will start lessons with her as soon as he is ready. We are very happy that we found Mrs. Work who we can trust wholeheartedly with our kids’ musical development.” ”
““In addition to all of this, Amy is an amazing communicator and is so organized with all of her lessons, keeping her expectations from her students clear and concise. I could sing Amy’s praises all day! She is the best!”“Our daughter has been taking lessons with Amy for two years and we could not be happier to have found her. Not only is her in home studio the picture of perfection, but her lessons and care for the children are as well. Our family has thoroughly enjoyed Amy’s positivity, concern, organization and peaceful manner of being. She is a talented pianist and instructor that not only helps our girl to learn and perform her pieces, but also takes care to help her appreciate music and composers in general. She not only provides one on one lessons, but group lessons that are fun, engaging and allow our child yet another level of accountability, as this is a time when she can perform for and collaborate with other kids her age. We cannot recommend Amy Work enough to anyone interested in lessons at any age.” ”
““Mrs. Amy is an amazing teacher. My 5 year old son started earlier this year. He loves it and looks forward to every lesson. He has been learning to read music, rhythms, proper posture, etiquette, and musical history as well. Amy even gives a lesson plan for him to follow and practice at home during the week. I love to hear him play full songs and I am so proud of his progress. I am looking forward to the end of the year recital to hear my son and all the other students play. I highly recommend this piano studio and I could not be happier with this piano studio.” ”
““We first met Amy Work while taking our daughter to one of her friend’s piano recital in the Spring of 2016. We had been to many piano recitals in the past, but to our surprise, this was like no other. Amy’s recital was a creative animal themed production, which not only showcased exceptional music and piano playing but was accompanied by a narration which tied the music to a cohesive story. Her students played with tremendous passion and technique, enjoying every note that flew from their hands. It was then, that we knew we had to enroll our son, Dylan, into her studio. She graciously welcomed Dylan into her already full schedule, selflessly making time for him in the early mornings. It has been two years since he first started taking lessons with Amy and it is one of the best decisions we’ve made. Not only has Dylan grown as a piano player, he has also grown as a passionate performer and musician. Amy has a brilliant way of teaching, which motivates and encourages her students to practice while providing her students with an abundance of performing opportunities to showcase their skills. In addition, she is so genuinely caring and loving towards her students, that they become not only her student but her friend. She is an outstanding piano teacher and mentor, and we are grateful to have met and worked with her. The lessons she has taught Dylan will forever impact him on his musical career, and for that, we are forever thankful. Thank you, Amy, for the wonderful, music-filled two years. You will be dearly missed!””
““Amy Work has been teaching our daughter Ava for three years now, and we could not be happier. Amy has found a way to make learning piano fun and exciting, while still challenging our daughter to develop her skills to their fullest potential. We’re not sure exactly what Amy does to keep Ava so engaged and motivated, but she’s clearly doing something right. Ava practices at home regularly without being asked, and clearly enjoys herself while doing it. It’s such a pleasure to see her get so much joy from playing…our hearts swell with pride every time we hear a note! Thank you Amy!” ”
““Ms Amy has helped me with my piano playing during our lessons. I like her very much.””
““My daughter, Heather, studied under Ms. Amy Work for 3 years, from age 8 - age 11. We moved away from Virginia but if I could have taken Amy Work with us, I would have! My daughter loved studying piano under Amy and she developed tremendously during those years. Amy was firm and encouraging which both pushed my daughter to play her best while providing a lot of encouraging feedback to keep her motivated. My daughter particularly enjoyed being able to play tunes from her favorite movies but also learned to play the classics, while simultaneously learning musical skills, music theory, setting goals and building confidence. Amy really cares about her students and understands their learning pace. She works to find music and opportunities tailored to each individual student. Amy provided a variety of wonderful performance and competition venues, particularly the beloved Christmas recital! Amy worked hard to put on some of the events herself and the Ensemble Festival was one of Heather’s favorites. She also provided several opportunities each year to play at retirement homes, providing the students additional “low pressure” performance opportunities while giving the home residents a wonderful and memorable experience. While we have been able to find world-class piano instructors at our new location, their programs don’t begin to compare to the diversity, quality music education and fun of learning piano with Amy. We miss her tremendously and highly recommend her!” ”
““Our two boys have been taking lessons with Amy for almost 10 years and we could not be happier. Amy is kind, diligent, hard working and truly cares for her students. She is such a blessing to our family!” ”
“My daughter has been taking lessons from Amy Work for 6 years. Amy’s enthusiasm for teaching and her passion for music are evident; she puts her heart and soul in each and every lesson. Amy knows how to bring out the best every student. Throughout the last 6 years my daughter has participated in many recitals, festivals and competitions. During those events, it is clear Amy’s students are standouts among the rest. Her teaching style combined with her love for her students and their music exemplifies what you would want in a piano teacher. I am thrilled to have Amy as my daughter’s teacher.””
““Mrs. Amy Work took the basics our daughter came in with and helped her to flourish into a true pianist. Her expertise, professionalism and encouragement has raised the bar for the expectations she expects in herself. In this short time, she has already had more opportunities to grow and compete and learn that I would have thought possible for a 12 year old. Finding Amy’s studio was so fortunate for both her AND our family— who gets great joy out of every note she plays. Thank you so much, Amy!””
““Vincent started lessons with Amy from the age of nine. Time seems to fly when you learn from a wonderful instructor. Vincent continued playing piano with Amy right up until he went off to college. Of course, there were ups and downs but Amy always knew what was best and pushed her students to reach a higher level of potential; she is focused yet friendly, critical yet supporting. Learning from Amy has been a significant experience in Vincent’s life and we are so blessed to have had a blooming relationship with Amy all these years.””
““When looking for a piano teacher after moving to this area, my kids wanted someone they felt comfortable with and would like to learn from each week. I wanted someone who had a passion for teaching and would help them become well-rounded piano students by working with them on challenging repertoire, theory and sight-reading and providing performance opportunities at group lessons, festivals and Guild. Being a pianist myself, I want my kids to learn a life-long skill and the enjoyment of music, but I also want them to enjoy the process. Amy is the whole package and we are so happy to be part of her piano family!””
